More than 6,000 packages of plant-based butter, including some sold in Illinois, were recalled because of contamination from mold, E. coli and yeast, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Idaho-based Prosperity Organic Foods Inc. recalled roughly 1,304 cases of Miyoko s Creamery European style salted plant milk butter in early September, but the FDA classified it as a Class II recall on Oct. 23 defined on the agency s website as a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote. Each recalled case contains six packs of 8-ounce butter. The individual packs are labeled with lot 07871 and a best by date of Nov. 5, 2026. The cases were distributed to Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, New Jersey and New Hampshire. The FDA s recall alert is available here.
